Around mid February there are some Ume matsuris in Tokyo, but to get the real feel (i.e. large fields or parks of plum trees) some travel is needed. The Sogabessho (Odawara) Ume Matsuri was a suprisingly big event with a lot (!) or Plum trees, nice views of Mt. Fuji and also some neat quiet areas to stroll through. A nice mix. Information can be found here.

Location: Exit Shimosoga station and follow the crowds. The area is larger than it appears at first sight. So pick up a "pamphleto"to know where to go. I also recommend to walk up to the observation/ view point here.
