Not Tokyo but still: Kochi Yosakoi

9th-12th August the largest, the original yosakoi event takes place in Kochi, Shikoku. Probably only a must see for yosakoi fans, but in case you are it's worth the trip.

Book well in advance an accomodation - and by well in advance I mean 6 month. As there is also the largest Awa odori in Tokushima (also Shikoku) a few days later the whole island - not only Kochi city or Tokushima - will not have any accomodation left. It's a whopping 6h train ride from Tokyo though taking a flight to Kochi Airport might be an option. More expensive though than Shinkansen when flying around yosakoi event dates without booking at least 4 months in advance.
