17th/18th August. Smaller than Koenji but still not "small" Awa Odori event can be found in Shimokita around mid August. It is, like Koenji, held two days (Sat and Sun) and runs from 18:30 to 20:30.

Very good information provided in english can be found here on the website of Shimokitazawa Shopping mall. From their page:
"There are three dancing groups (ren) participating in the festival. The first one is called “Hihumi-Ren”, or “One-Two-Three Dancing group”. This group consisted of the youth living in the first to third district of the shopping street, which became the origin of the dancing group. The second one is called “Shimokitazawa Ichibangai Yattoko Ren”, which relatively new to the scene and their dancing style is energetic. The third one consists of the employees at Showa Credit Union, the local firm. The festival is chiefly held at the main street of Shimokitazawa Ichibangai, which is relatively wide."
